The name of the municipality spelt Berneris in 12éme and 14éme centuries, in 15éme century Patry's name was added to
differentiate it of Bernières Bocage (municipality of Juaye-Mondaye). it belonged to the Sergenterie de Tinchebray, Fresnes's notary's practice and raised counts of Mortain, it was only
March 1st, 1790 when it was connected with Vassy's canton and district of Vire.
The back small son of Robert de Vassy who took part in the conquest of England in 1066, is the first Lord known for the parish, Auvray de Vassy, a bridegroom twice, whose second
wife belonged to the family of Patry.
Their son Guillaume inherited from the seigneury of Bernières and from the other lands to Vassy and Moncy. To avoid any confusion among the heirs of Vassy's Auvray, it seemed convenient
to add Patry's name to Bernières's parish. In 1347, Guillaume Patry the young person, the bridegroom to Jeanne de Caligny, was considered as Lord of Bernières Patry.
In 1598, along the front of the royal notaries in the office of Tinchebray, Marguerite du Parc and her son René du Breuil sold to Robert Le Marié of the
Garanterie, whose manor house is now in ruins, for the sum 10.000 livres tournaments the seigneury of Bernières with all its memberships and rights in the presence of the substitute of
the prosecutor of Tinchebray Julien Boyvin Mr. of Noron.
In 1620, Robert des Landes and Robert Blaise was farmers of Bernières and Rully's tabellionage, load that they paid 25 livres.
In 1700, the parish counted 250 fires, sprayed by Guyenne. Lands were rather inferior. Bernières's territory was shared between two cures, the prior of the Plessis was a boss of the
first, the belonging a second in one of La Roque Mr. de Mesnillet who possessed a very beautiful house, as well as a mill there which should stay in service until 1945.

graves among which one had a sword, furnished the ground of the nef. Dimes was perceived by the prieuré of Plessis, the abbey of Belle Etoile and the abbey Blanche de Mortain for two
thirds, the other third to the priest following the donation makes by Auvray de Vassy at the beginning of the 12éme century
Been born to Bernières on November 17, 1765, son of developers owners Louis Philippe Dumont of La Rochelle was small lawyer in Vire in 1789. Voter of Vassy's canton from 1790
till 1792, engaged voluntary in 1791.
On September 15, 1791, he was named an administrator of the Calvados and delegated in the Agreement in the party of the Gironde with his friend Doulcet de Pontécoulant. All right on the
fault of Louis XVI, he voted its detention during the war and its banishment after the peace. Constitutional moderate, his peasant origin made him stay in a careful twilight, he was considered
by the Jacobins as a " toad of swamps ".
After the murder in Vassy of Pierre Bosniére, whose son was a friend, he blamed violently the agreement on October 2, 1795 for his leniency towards the Chouans. 18 Floreal the year IV,
he accused the marquees of Canisy to Vassy of being the inspirator of the attack by the Chouans of the mobile column of Vire which had just plundered the castle of this last one.
Having sat in Cinq-Cents, having taken out on May 20, 1798, he is named on June 6 treasurer a payer of the Calvados. Named on June 24, 1800 general conductor of the direct taxes of the Calvados
thanks to Doulcet de Pontécoulant's protection whom he had hidden in October, 1793 when the anarchists of the agreement brought down the heads of their colleagues. It is obliged to
abandon the post after irregularities and contestings variously, its caution money for the refund of the sums hijacked in the treasury amounting to 515.000 Frcs. He should get free of this
business in 1808, having sold a house in Caen 28.000 Frcs and Bernières's earth 106.000 Frcs, thanks to Doulcet de Pontécoulant's support which obtained from the emperor an
advance. Named a payer to the army of Portugal he abandoned and withdrew in the village of Carcel to Bernières where he died on June 11, 1853, having served all the regimes, his grave
always exists in the cemetery, as well as that of its daughter Blanche, of its son-in-law the marquees Nestor de Saffray and of his grandson Gustave de Saffray.
He was the half brother of Jean Baptiste Dumont been born in 1749, the forested agent in Vire then member of the board of directors of the district of Vire from 1790 till 1792 and a
magistrate of Vassy from 1795 till 1800.
His other half brother was Omer François Lefourmentier been born in 1752, a vicar of St Cornier of Landes 61 before 1791, constitutional priest of Vassy from 1791 till 27 March
1794, conductor of the national lottery in Caen in 1800, appointed to the recipe of Caen in 1803.
Contrary to Dumont, the population of Bernières adorned to have had the same enthusiasm for the new ideas. His priest J. Postel, refused to take the oath, and was replaced in 1791
by Guillaume Chatel who adorned to have exercised on the municipality a fatal influence, inciting this one to denouncethe priests not jureurs of the region. Philippe Bonnesoeur born in
Bernières and vicar of Rully insermenté, who lived in the country, was arrested in 1792 and 1793 on Chatel's initiative.
The refusal opposite to the demands and men's levyings called to the army, was the cause of confusions to Bernières and in all the region. They developed in 1795 with the insurrectionary
army of Louis de Frotté. July 23, 1797, on Dumont's initiative, inhabitants of Bernières petitioned authorities in whom they considered that the plunders, the thefts, the
ill-treatment, the removals of bread and cattle had cost 100.000 livres, and that 70 inhabitants had to take refuge with the nearby cities. In the end of May, 1799, the 29, Vassy's patrol and
detachment of soldiers of Vire fire the one on the other one with wounded persons.
