The name of this municipality spelt in several ways during the centuries, Cella de Proeris in the 12éme century, Praères Praelles in the 16éme, Praesles in the 17éme. This name would result from the prairie separating the manor house of the first Lords of the church in the locality Livet.

Robert de Presles was a part of knights having fought in Hastings in 1066 under Richard Goz's orders viscount of Avranches.
It(he) received baronnies in the Wales which he had helped to subject with the biggest ferocity. Returned in Normandy, after a life of the most shaken, he ended its days in the meditation in Troarn's abbey with its horse.
His descendants made tree stump some in England or the last one died in 1340, was baron of Barthomley, the others in Normandy, the viscounts of Avranches from 1180 till 1236, the last one died in 1360, leaving only two girls.
He had given in this abbey church of the Desert, Presles, Burcy and half of that of Montchamp.

In 1338 Philippe de Presles occupied a post with King Philippe VI The known last one was Richard de Presles whose succession took place in Caen in 1367, in favour of his two daughters among whom the one had married Jehan de Marie.
On January 29, 1412 Guiot de Sainte Marie inherited from the seigneury of Presles, in 1480 it was Robert de Sainte Marie, then in 1539 Robert de Sainte Marie. The last one was Pierre de Sainte Marie who sold in 1569 to Jean Anffrye Lord of the Le Reculey.
It was bought in 1581 by Guillaume Thoury who was murdered in 1588 by Christophe de Baudre, Lord of Brémoy, who was sentenced in absentia, to have the clear-cut head, and the trees of his park were beheaded.

In 1640, the fief was possessed by Pierre de Thoury who was also a Lord of Estry. This fief, had become to the son of the centuries of not enough importance, but the patronage of a parish was powerful charm for a little fortunate noble family.

The last Lord of Presles was Deslandes Lord of La Heuzerie in 1750, who possessed the manor house built by middle-class persons of Vire, the Desmonts.

Presles's church is dedicated to Our Lady, a description of 1857 finds the following points there: the north and south walls are in fish bones of fish, drilled by windows ending in embraces. In the western wall there is a Romanic window of small dimensions which was never glazed. On a particularly massive skeleton raises itself a bell tower surmounted by a hurt octagonal arrow. Tithes were shared by third enter the prieuré of Le Desert representing Troarn's abbey, that of Yvrandes for the prieuré of Plessis and abbey Blanche de Mortain. In 1700, the priest was Michel Hutrel who had 400 livres of income 800 inhabitants. The Lord being of Thoury who did not live in the parish.

In the nef is Pierre Joachim Thadée Lemoine's gravestone, born in the village of Durandiére in Le Theil, priest of Presles, Dean of the Val de Vire, died on August 30, 1727, and buried in the place indicated in its will. Guillaume Siquot's gravestones too cleaned out by Presles died on March 20, 1749, and Robert Hulline " very deserving priest " died on December 24, 1757 are also. His successor was Omer François Dumont who was named cleaned out by the Theil in 1793 by the district of Ledge, he was replaced by Jean Charles Desmortreux.
Presles's church was the property of Troarn's abbey since 1115 until the Revolution, there was however a lawsuit with the Prieuré du Plessis Grimoult who would have should give up his claims.
The inventory of March 16, 1794 by the municipality indicates :
2 chalices, patènes 2, 1 ciborium, 1 sun, 1 rear quarter panel the quite silver for a weight of 7 marcs 6 "gros" 5 ounces.
Crosses, copper encensoirs weighed 126 livres.
There were 15 pinafore dresses wool and silk, 6 tunics, 17 screeds, 2 banners and a canopy.
The factory or the treasure possessed 4 near rented for a surface about 1,5 hectares.
In 1450 Presles was a part of Sergenterie of Le Tourneur and was "imposed" of 28 days of watch on the castle of Vire.
